Design Process: An Example

Here is an example of our design process:

We gather as much information as we can from our client. Our client has stated that they would like two rugs, one to be used under their kitchen table, and one to be used in front of their kitchen sink. Their kitchen table is 60" round.

In this example, the client has submitted a sample of their fabric used in their kitchen area. They have also shown us a sample of their kitchen's paint color. The client has stated that they "...want a rug with some energy- something that has some detail- something that will stand out and bring focus to the room." The also said that they want a feeling of texture. They are opposed to flowers, but do not mind geometric shapes or patterns.

Kitchen Paint Color

So here we go. . . . .

The client has said that they like one of our designs: Equator (Modern Home, Gallery page 1). They would like to see that design in their colors (the table rug design would need to be a square shape to fit their table). But, they would also like us to make a few original designs to give them some options. Here's what we came up with:

Table Rug:

Our design, Equator, shown in their colors. We would create texture by using the dragging method of painting for the green and tan colors.

Sink Rug:

Our design, Equator, shown in their colors. The colors have been inverted to show the client some different color ideas. Texture would be added by using the dragging method to match the feel of their fabric.

The Client's Choice:

At this point, our client may choose one of the proposed designs- and work will begin.

Or, our client may choose to alter or change designs to suit their needs. They may add or change stencils. They may swap colors, add or take away borders.

We want our customers to be happy with their chosen design!

Here are some original designs for their kitchen table rug that we came up with considering their likes and dislikes:

Original Design #1 -

Borders with diamonds. We would do a color wash or dragging in the center area to show depth and texture.

Original Design #3 -

This design features a swirl stencil and dots. This a fluid design.

Orignial Design #2 -

A modern option. Very bold and dramatic color.
